Tackling Food Poverty

Newham Community Project is working hard to eradicate widespread food poverty within our community. Our aim is to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Toward this goal, we operate a food bank three days a week. We support low-income families, those who have become destitute, particularly people with no recourse to public funds (NRPF), refugees & asylum seekers, and international students, as well as families referred to us by the local authority (London Borough of Newham).

We pride ourselves on providing our beneficiaries with nutritionally balanced and culturally appropriate food that adheres to the East NHS guidelines. Our food bank is more than just a source of food; it is also a place of safety where people can receive support without stigma or prejudice. Our dedicated support staff ensures our beneficiaries receive the best possible support and are treated with utmost respect and dignity. Our food bank is a testament to what we can achieve as a community if we lend our hands of support and show compassion to those in need.

Our beneficiaries are immensely grateful for the help they receive and eagerly utilise any opportunities to break free of poverty and dependence on food banks. We work hand-in-hand with our beneficiaries to help them overcome their challenges and become self-sufficient through skills development, education, and training opportunities.

We dream of a time when the people in our community would not have to resort to food banks for support; we acknowledge that in the current socio-economic climate, there are many stumbling blocks beyond our control before this dream can be realised.
