Women’s Health & Exercise

A recent report from SPORT England shows people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds are far less likely to be physically active. Asians were among the least physically active of the major racial/ethnic groups. Most notably, Asians were less likely than whites to have sufficient levels of physical activity and had similarly lower expected numbers of physical activity minutes and days.

We understand the concerns that many women have regarding exercise and health that is why we provide culturally appropriate and acceptable activities and classes.

All our classes and activities are FREE!

We understand that cost is a massive barrier for many Asian communities many of whom live in the most deprived areas of the city. That is why all our classes and activities are free.

Women’s Cycling Sessions

We offer a range of women-only sessions. We firmly encourage and support the participation of women in cycling.

Weekly skills sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays. These sessions are being organised and run by our experienced women cyclists. They have been doing a great effort in running these skills sessions and helping many female cyclists improve their cycling ability and confidence.

Different levels of ability are welcome:

If you would like to attend either of these sessions, please email support @newhamcommunityproject.org so we will know in advance how many riders are turning up.

Women’s Walking Club

Boots on… Let’s go..

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier. Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories and make your heart healthier.

At NCP we run a twice-weekly walking session for women of all ages. In the last 6 years over 2500 women have benefited. Sessions take place on Thursdays and Sundays.

If you would like to attend either of these sessions, please email support @newhamcommunityproject.org so we will know in advance how many walkers will be turning up.

Walking – Make it a habit- some tips

The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit. Think of ways to include walking in your daily routine.

Examples include:

  • walking part of your journey to work
  • walking to the shops
  • using the stairs instead of the lift
  • leaving the car behind for short journeys
  • walking the kids to school
  • doing a regular walk with a friend
  • going for a stroll with family or friends after dinner.

Exercise Classes for all.

We are starting a range of new exercise classes for women, they’re suitable for all. These are outdoor classes and are free for all, regardless of your fitness levels so why not give it a try? These classes will be taking place in Wanstead flats and parks around Newham, depending on the need.

If you are interested in taking part.
